Michael is a CHD survivor and our first Halle Heart Children’s Museum Heart Warrior to be featured.

With the help of Mended Little Hearts of Phoenix, the Halle Heart Children’s Museum is pleased to announce the launch of a very special speaker series. The Halle Heart Children’s Museum Heart Warriors speaker series will feature kids talking to kids about heart disease, congenital heart defects and telling their story of heroism.

Our first Heart Warrior being featured is Michael. He was born in June 2003 with a congenital heart defect (CHD) known as Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS), Pulmonary Atresia, Intact Septal Defect and now wears a pacemaker.

At just three days old, Michael had his first open-heart surgery called a BT Shunt and had his first pacemaker in before he started kindergarten. Visit us on Saturday, October 24th at 11:30am and listen to Michael and his family share their story of heroism and warrior spirit.

Entrance to the series is included in museum general admission. Find out more here.

Halle Heart Children’s Museum Now Summer Feeding Site

By |May 28th, 2015|Categories: News|Tags: , , , , |Comments Off on Halle Heart Children’s Museum Now Summer Feeding Site

For the past two years the Halle Heart Children’s Museum has partnered with St. Mary’s Food Bank  Alliance through its Kids Café Summer Food Service Program for Children to offer a heart-healthy meal to Camp Heart Beat Campers.

This year, we are expanding to become a full summer feeding site and offer lunch six days a week to children and teens looking for a summer meal they typically receive at a school location during the school year.

One in four children in Arizona live in poverty on a daily basis and do not know where their next meal is coming from. Each day, the Kids Café Program of St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance distributes more than 3,000 late afternoon meals to kids who may not have anything waiting for them at home that night. A sandwich. A piece of fruit. A small carton of milk. Things so many of us take for granted each day – but these items are the difference between going to bed hungry or happy.

Heart-healthy meals will be made available FREE to all eligible children and teens who are 18 years of age and under daily (Monday – Saturday) from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. In addition, Kids Café children and teens will not only receive a FREE heart-healthy meal, they will also receive FREE museum admission.

Kids Café Meal Distribution (Beginning June 1)
Monday – Saturday | 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Daily

Meals will be made available free to all eligible children at the open sites who are 18 years of age and under, within the approved geographical area, and without discrimination against any child because of race, color, national origin, sex age or disability.  Any person who believes that he/she has been discriminated against in any USDA related activity should write immediately to the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 20250. See the full list of Summer Feeding sites here: http://www.azsummerfood.gov/food-site-locations

Help Reduce Childhood Obesity in Arizona

By |February 16th, 2015|Categories: Events|Tags: , , , |0 Comments

hhcm1 Help Reduce Childhood Obesity in Arizona

The Halle Heart Children’s Museum is holding its first-ever fundraising event on June 3, 2015 to share our mission and help spread the word about the work we are doing to help create a generation of healthier kids. As part of this event, we are looking for sponsors — please see the attached flyer outlining the sponsorship levels for the breakfast event along with some additional longer-term museum partnership opportunities.

You probably already know that heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women in America, accounting for one out of every four deaths (or about 600,000) each year. But did you know that heart disease is around 80% preventable simply by eating a healthy diet, exercising and not smoking? Despite this, more than 25% of Arizona’s kids are overweight and 1 in 8 kids in Arizona are obese — all of which leads to a lifetime of heart health issues.

Each year more than 30,000 kids, teachers and parents tour the Halle Heart Children’s Museum to learn how to live a heart healthy life, and beginning this year we will educate thousands more kids now that we’re open to the general public for the first time. By being a sponsor at our breakfast Pearson can make a real difference in the health of Arizona’s kids.
