HHCM Launches New Public Hours

The Halle Heart Children’s Museum has traditionally been open for school field trips and by appointment only for private tours, but all that changed recently with the launch of our public hours. We’re excited to announce that for the months of October, November and December we will be open:

  • Monday through Friday, Noon to 4 p.m.
  • Additionally, we’ll be open to the public on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is $5 for all guests 4 years and older, and free for visitors 3 years and under. You do not need an appointment to visit the museum during our public hours so come on down and join in on the fun. You can be one of the first to try out our brand new video kiosks to help guide you through the museum and get the most out of your experience.

The Halle Heart Children’s Museum educates, engages and empowers nearly 30,000 children each year through an interactive and state-of-the-art experience focused on heart healthy lifestyle choices, heart function and emergency response. Stop in and see for yourself why the HHCM is considered one of the best kept secrets in the Valley!

Want to be More Involved with the HHCM?

Volunteer Opportunity

The Halle Heart Children’s Museum is looking for volunteers to serve on a newly formed Executive Leadership Committee that will develop and implement an individual giving campaign following a prescribed model for raising funds from individual donors. The committee will also help plan a fundraising breakfast event at a local hotel in 2015. Fundraising or event planning experience is not required.

Committee Member Job Description

The specific responsibilities of each team member will vary depending on that person’s interests and strengths and may include:

  1. Learning the fundraising model
  2. Attending monthly committee meetings in person or by telephone
  3. Attending at least one introductory event (Tour de Lub Dub) at the Halle Heart Children’s Museum
  4. Being an Ambassador: inviting ten or more people to a Tour de Lub Dub
  5. Recruiting others to be Ambassadors
  6. Making thank-you phone calls and invitation calls as requested
  7. Optional: Being a Table Captain at the annual “Ask” Event (tentatively to be held Spring 2015)
  8. Attending donor cultivation events as requested
  9. Taking on other special roles on the team as desired (being a greeter at Tour de Lub Dub events, etc.)

Video Kiosks to Bring Self-Guided Tours to Museum

Perhaps one of the best features of the Halle Heart Children’s Museum is that guests who visit the museum are treated to a tour by one of our specially-trained Heart Guides. The interaction between the visitor and the Heart Guide creates a powerful learning experience.

Yet as the museum begins to expand its reach and moves toward open public hours (more news about this to come soon), visitors will need another way to experience the museum. With that in mind, the museum is preparing to install video kiosks to provide visitors with self-guided tours.

Thanks in large part to a generous donation by Tempe-based IT company Insight, six video kiosks are on their way from a manufacturer in North Carolina and will be installed in the next few weeks. Each kiosk will provide visitors with a short video with information about the museum and details on how to interact with each exhibit. The self-guided tours should be fully operational by early autumn.

The kiosks will feature the museum’s mascot Lub Dub decked out as “superhero” the Red Crusader.

This national epidemic has dramatic effects on our society because it increases our children’s risk for developing life threatening, chronic conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type-2 diabetes, and ultimately cardiovascular disease much earlier in life. The good news is that 80 percent of heart disease is preventable and the key to prevention is education.

The Halle Heart Children’s Museum is the only hands-on, interactive cardiovascular learning facility in the nation. Each year more than 30,000 children and adults visit the Museum and are educated in a fun, interactive environment about how to make healthy food choices, become more physically active and say “no” to smoking.

To help spread the word about this wonderful museum, we are holding special tours of the facility over the next several months. You are invited to attend one of these free, one-hour tours so you can see for yourself what a remarkable community resource it is and why it’s considered one of the best kept secrets in the Valley! This is not a fundraising event and you will not be asked to donate anything – it is simply a great way for us to get the word out about the Museum because we know that once you see it for yourself you’ll tell everyone you know about it.

April a Busy Month at HHCM

Kitchen-Cafe-Cooking-Demonstration-300x225 April a Busy Month at HHCMThe 2013-14 school year has been a busy time at the Halle Heart Children’s Museum, with groups of students touring the space nearly every day. But even as the school year winds down, activity at the museum is picking up. April is on track to be a record month for special events at the museum with a wide range of outside groups and internal events taking place in this beautiful facility. Some of the groups taking advantage of the facility include the Black Nurses Association of Greater Phoenix which will be hosting a series of heart-healthy cooking classes in the kitchen café, CSW Contractors which is holding a luncheon in the activity center and the Arizona Public Health Association which is having an evening reception. Speaking of events, Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care will be using the museum’s activity center over the next several months for a series of training classes for their employees and area healthcare workers that will bring in a significant amount of revenue for the museum. This contract is the first of what the museum hopes will be many more substantial revenue generating events at the museum.

The other exciting news for the museum is that this Fall it will be launching a unique fundraising program which is designed to introduce the museum and its mission to a much broader audience across the valley and raise funds to help offset operating and program costs. The system is designed to engage and develop relationships with individual donors to build a passionate donor base that is committed to our long-term financial sustainability. Team Lub Dub Debuts New Mobile Sorting Game at Heart Walk

HHCMHeartWalkBooth2014-300x224 Team Lub Dub Debuts New Mobile Sorting Game at Heart WalkThe 2014 Phoenix Heart Walk was held on Saturday, March 29 in downtown Phoenix with more than 15,000 participants raising funds for the AHA. This year’s walk was a tremendous success, raising more than $1.2 million to date.

The Halle Heart Children’s Museum once again had a booth at the Heart Healthy Festival before and after the walk. Staff members spoke to children and adults about the benefits of healthy eating and exercise and provided information about the museum.

The team was also excited to introduce its new mobile food sorting game for kids to enjoy while visiting the booth. The exhibit was completed just in time for the walk by our friends at Nicomia and it made its debut at the booth. Visitors were asked to sort through various foods and drinks and place them in the appropriate bin depending on whether they were grains, proteins, fruits, etc. The game is modeled off the full size sorters in the museum’s marketplace exhibit.

Also in attendance at the walk was our very own Lub Dub, who not only spent time at the HHCM booth but who also greeted walkers at the event finish line. Lub Dub is a huge fan favorite whenever he’s out in the community, which has been often recently. Not only was Lub Dub at the walk, but he made several special appearances at corporations like Banner and Medtronic in advance of the walk to fire up employee walkers.

We’re excited about our new mobile sorting game and plan to bring it with us into the community at upcoming events.
