The Junior League of Phoenix, in partnership with the American Heart Association’s Halle Heart Children’s Museum, is thrilled to invite your junior chef to participate in the Kids Cook with Heart program, funded by a generous grant from the Junior League of Phoenix.
Obesity is an epidemic in America. Today about 1 in 3 American kids and teens is overweight or obese. In some cities, the rate is over 50%.
American families dine outside the home more than ever, due in part to a lack of culinary knowledge and skill, and the convenience of take-out and fast food meals. The American Heart Association and the Junior League of Phoenix believe strongly in the ability of education to change the behavior. Kids Cook with Heart teaches children to cook healthy foods from scratch and to increase their knowledge and appreciation for fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Kids Cook with Heart integrates hands-on healthy cooking and nutrition with cardiovascular healthy education. The class is designed for children ages 7 yrs to 12 yrs and is 1½ hours long.
Our innovative Kids Cook with Heart program is a hands-on cooking program held in the Halle Heart Children’s Museum Demonstration Kitchen and is designed to teach students from primarily underserved communities in Phoenix the importance of good nutrition and empower them with the culinary skills and confidence to make home cooking a part of their daily routine.
Each 1½ hour program includes a healthy eating educational session, followed by a hands-on cooking class and demonstration. Throughout the program, we highlight the importance of an active lifestyle in conjunction with healthy eating and encourage the students to engage in the daily recommended amount of physical activity.
The students are provided information to bring home to share with their families.
Please note, this class will be instructed in English. Esta clase se impartirá en inglés.
